  1. Hypertension was defined as being diagnosed by a doctor as having high blood pressure or hypertension, taking anti-hypertensive medication, systolic blood pressure ≥ 140 mm Hg, or diastolic blood pressure ≥ 90 mm Hg. The risk of hypertension as a function of hyperuricemia was assessed using logistic regression, adjusted for age, sex, and body mass index (and individual admixture proportion in the HUFS).
