(A and B) At the thigh level, MRIs demonstrated severe muscle atrophied with signal changes of semitendinous muscles of posterior compartment, gracilis muscle of medial compartment, and sartorius muscle of anterior compartment. (C and D) The lower leg MRIs revealed selective severe muscle atrophy with signal change of anterior (arrow; tibialis anterior, extensor digitorum and halluces longus muscles) and lateral (arrowhead; peronei muscles) compartments. However, posterior compartment muscles (soleus and tibialis posterior muscles) were sparing in the later stages.
